Reflect and thrive in 2025!

I started Wildfish Crafts back in 2023. Having progressed through a couple of years now getting to know people and the various ‘Makers Markets’ in and around East Lothian I can honestly say I have learned a lot and met a growing group of helpful, dynamic, and creative people.

Sitting in front of a toasty log burning fire on a crisp and cold January morning with the snow covered hills visible in the near distance, seems an appropriate time to reflect on the journey so far.

One of the things I found myself doing last January was to have a think about the sustainable products I wanted to continue making and what 2024 was going to bring as a goal. Here I am a year on and I seem to have established, naturally, some firm favourites with regards to sustainable products and have also continued my exploration of new, sustainable yarns.

Recycled T shirt yarn and jute are firm favourites in the Wildfish stock. I have also started creating new products from recycled macrame cord to create baskets and wooden handled handbags. In addition, I am also using a yarn made from 100% plastic bottles which is extremely soft and produces beautiful headbands  and, believe it or not, I am just testing a new sustainable product using eucalyptus yarn made from the pulp of eucalyptus trees!

I can’t finish without saying a huge thank you to all the lovely people who promote and sell my products in their beautiful shops (Raspberry Leaf Interiors at Fenton Barns & Peppermint Beach on the High Street in North Berwick) together with the bespoke commissions people ask me to produce. Perhaps my most unusual and challenging item was to make ‘The Venus of Wilendorf’, aka, ‘The Little Fat Goddess’. She was a joy to create, commissioned by a local lady for her sister who resides in Australia. Check out the Goddess’ history on my Instagram or Facebook…. ‘The Little Fat Goddess’ is a true star!
